Shimmy like Santa at our Holiday Party … Sunday at USA Dance!
Shimmy like Santa (and Mrs. Claus) at our Holiday Party: 3 – 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15! It’s our last dance of the year and a Member Appreciation Dance, which means free admission for USA Dance members. Others pay $10.
Come early for a quickstep lesson, taught by David Lopez of Santa Fe, at 2:15 p.m.
We encourage dancers to dress up in festive semiformal holiday wear. They are also invited to bring finger foods to share, along with toothpicks or serving tongs.
Debra Williams and Perry Pedersen (pictured) will also perform a Nightclub Two-Step, and we’ll hold a brief election to fill two vacancies on the chapter board. Read more below … You can join USA Dance online or at the dance.
Need a desk job? We’re seeking volunteers to staff the check-in desk at our 2025 parties. It’s a great way to meet your fellow dancers, and to help us host these dances.
Desk volunteers get free admission and are on duty from 2 – 3:30 p.m., leaving plenty of dancing time. They collect money from dancers and sign them in. Volunteers can work alongside a partner of their choice, or be paired with a second person.
Interested? Please contact Sandy King by email (NatureSand@gmail.com) or text — (505) 232-8968 — and let her know which date you can volunteer. Our dances are on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month.
Meet our board nominees
We will also have an election on Sunday to name two members to vacancies on our chapter’s board of directors. Here are brief bios of our nominees, Marie Stoffer and Greg Collison:
Greg Collison began teaching dance in 1974 at a Fred Astaire studio in Michigan, and later taught in Fred Astaire and Arthur Murray studios in Florida and Ohio, where he has won medals from bronze to supreme gold in Pro-am and Pro competitions. Greg also choreographs stage productions and kids’ events.
Greg recently moved to Albuquerque from Gallup, where he taught Country-Western and ballroom dancing at UNM Gallup.
Marie Stoffer, a retired electrical engineer, has been dancing for about 16 years and teaching dance for six years. She both leads and follows most dance styles and is certified by Dvida in American smooth, and in cha cha and rumba in American rhythm.
Originally from Connecticut, Marie has lived in New Mexico for 38 years.
