Chapter president Rosie Harper dressed as Marilyn Monroe

The day the stars came out

And the Oscars went to … everyone who came to a recent USA Dance in Albuquerque dressed as a movie star or film character!

We rolled out a real red carpet (OK, a tiny one) for its March 2 dance, Academy Awards day. Dancers transformed themselves into current and historical actors and characters that rivaled anything happening at the real Academy Awards. Our stars even took home their own, six-inch-tall Oscars.

Our next dance, on Sunday, March 16, is a Member Appreciation Dance. USA Dance members are free, while others pay $10. This dance also marks our chapter’s 19th anniversary. And since the following Monday is St. Patrick’s Day, you’re invited to wear something green.

Rosie Harper and Joseph Chavez will perform at Sunday’s dance

Sunday’s dance is 3 – 5 p.m. Our 2:15 p.m. lesson is East Coast Swing, taught by Joseph Chavez. Doug McClellan will DJ.

Our next dance — Sunday, March 2 — falls on Academy Awards day. So we’re asking dancers to dress up like their favorite movie star or film character.

Everyone in costume will get a statuette. We ask that you arrive before 3 p.m. to participate in our awards ceremony.

The dance is 3 – 5 p.m. Come early for a Standard Tango lesson by Brenda Lamon at 2:15 p.m. Janis Pullen and Stefan Easter will also perform. Andy Nelson is our DJ.

Admission is $5 for USA Dance members and $10 for others.
