Join our Jack & Jill contest … Sunday at USA Dance!

Next Sunday’s dance features one of our funnest events of the year … the Jack & Jill competition.

We’ll pair leaders (Jacks) and followers (Jills) at random. The newly constituted couples will then dance an East Coast Swing, waltz, and cha cha.

Tyler Ryan — who will also teach our main lesson — and Cristel Pike will judge the contest and choose the top couples.

Interested? Of course you are! Sign up at the dance.

The dance is Sunday, Aug. 16 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.

Come early for the lessons: Line dance at 5:15 p.m., and the beginner and intermediate/advanced lessons at 5:45 p.m.

Beginners can learn WCS in the small hall with Rosie Harper and Dorothy King. Tyler Ryan will teach the intermediate and advanced dancers in the main hall.Rosie, who is leading the 5:15 p.m. line dance class, plans to review favorite line dances of the year.

Our guest DJ is Patti Smith, owner of CSP Dance Studios.

Admission is $5 for USA Dance members and $10 for others.

All social dancers are welcome, and you never need a partner. Join us on the best dance floor in town at the Albuquerque Square Dance Center, 4915 Hawkins St. NE.

Note that this is the last evening dance of the summer. Afternoon dances will resume Sunday, Sept. 6.

Hands up if you’d like to help us plan for the future

Many hands make light work, as the saying goes — and we could use your hands (and brains) to shape the next phase of our USA Dance chapter.

Board elections will take place at the Nov. 1 dance. The board meets four times a year. We also ask board members to attend our dances frequently. The more hands we have on deck, the less each crew member has to do.

Interested? Talk to Claude Valles, our recruiter, at the next dance! Or send an email to info@usadancenm.org.
