Social Dancing in the Steel City

Our USA Dance chapter was well-represented at last month’s USA Dance National Social Celebration. Chapter president Rosie Harper, social media manager Cindy Vigil, and ageless member Len Fechter traveled to Pittsburgh to celebrate social dancing.
USA Dance, Inc., the chapter’s parent organization, hosted the Social Celebration as part of USA Dance Nationals — the premiere national competition for amateur ballroom and Latin dancers.
“The ballrooms were filled with elegant dancers who demonstrated passion, athleticism, and artistry. What an exciting feeling to soak in the energy that we felt in and out of the ballrooms,” Cindy said.
The three New Mexicans got to meet their counterparts from USA Dance chapters across the country.
“It was a pleasure to dance and converse with national officers, leaders of other chapters, top notch instructors, and fellow social dancers,” Rosie said.
“I have renewed hope that ballroom dancing will continue to be alive and well in our country,” she added.
Cindy had been asked to design this year’s USA Dance flyer and received an unexpected shout-out.
“I was genuinely surprised when our national president, Chuck Garrett, announced my name and asked me to stand in recognition of my work in designing the flyer,” Cindy said. “It was unforgettable, and such a privilege!” (See Cindy’s flyer below.)
USA Dance hosted two social dances over the weekend, including the patriotic-themed “250 Years of Celebration” dance and the nostalgic “Vintage Ballroom Elegance” dance. Both featured mixers and showcases along with dancing.
Attendees also had a front-row seat to USA Dance Nationals, which crowned national champions from the age of 4 to over 75.
Next year’s Nationals are set for April 2–5, 2027 in downtown Pittsburgh. Maybe you’ll be there next year!
