Dress like the star you are for our Academy Awards dance
Our next dance — Sunday, March 2 — falls on Academy Awards day. So we’re asking dancers to dress up like their favorite movie star or film character. “You could be a super hero, a witch, a glamorous beauty, a Disney character, an action hero, a monster, a villain or a detective,“ chapter president Rosie Harper said. “Let your imagination go wild!“
Whichever way your imagination takes you, take home with your very own Oscar … a little bitty one, at least. Everyone in costume will get a statuette. We ask only that you arrive at the dance before 3 p.m. so you participate in our awards ceremony.
We’re even rolling out the red carpet, like the one in the photo, so everyone can capture their own Academy Awards memories.
And if you just want to come and dance, fantastic! Because every movie needs an audience! Plus, our dance will be ending just as the real Academy Awards ceremony gets underway.
Sunday’s dance will also feature a performance by Janis Pullen and Stefan Easter (pictured), doing a “gangster style“ West Coast Swing. Hmmm.
The dance is 3 – 5 p.m. Come early for a Standard tango lesson by Brenda Lamon at 2:15 p.m. Andy Nelson will DJ.
Admission is $5 for USA Dance members and $10 for others. Our venue is the Albuquerque Square Dance Center, 4915 Hawkins St. NE.
