Our Jack & Jill contest is Sunday … at USA Dance

This was our 2016 Jack & Jill contest. On Sunday, we’ll pair leaders (Jacks) with followers (Jills) at random by pulling names out of jars. Our newly formed couples will then dance a rumba, cha cha, East Coast Swing, and waltz. Winners will be decided by our esteemed judges: Rosa Delgadillo Burt and Michiko Sibley. It’s a pailful of fun — and that‘s a fact, Jack!

The next USA Dance social dance party will feature one of our most entertaining events of the year — a Jack & Jill contest between couples paired at random.

The dance is 3 – 5 p.m. this Sunday, April 7, at the Albuquerque Square Dance Center, 4915 Hawkins St. NE. Andy Nelson will DJ.

Signups for the Jack & Jill end at 3:30 p.m., and the contest kicks off at 4. See below for more information. Come early for a Standard Viennese Waltz lesson at 2:15 p.m., taught by Rosa Delgadillo Burt of Abracadabra Ballroom Dance Co.

Admission is $5 for USA Dance members and $10 for others.

International Dance Day is today (Monday, April 29). We hope you’ll celebrate!

Sunday’s dance (Dec. 3) is also our general membership meeting, where we will be electing new members to our chapter’s board of directors. The dance is 3 – 5 p.m.

Our next USA Dance — this Sunday, April 2 — features a lesson that’s been three years in the making.

Susan and Gary Kellogg were originally scheduled to teach a Night Club Two-Step lesson in March 2020. But that dance never happened — it was our first casualty of the coronavirus pandemic. So we’ve invited them back to finish what they never got a chance to start.

Sunday’s dance is 3 – 5 p.m. at the Albuquerque Square Dance Center, 4915 Hawkins St. NE. Doug McClellan will DJ. The Kellogg’s Night Club lesson starts at 2:15 p.m.

Join us Sunday, Sept. 3 for an upbeat performance by the Energy and Rhythm Salsa Dance Team (pictured), and a quickstep lesson by Enchantment Dancing’s Cristel Pike.

Cristel’s lesson begins at 2:15 p.m., followed by dancing from 3 – 5 p.m. at the spacious Albuquerque Square Dance Center, 4915 Hawkins St. NE. Doug McClellan will DJ.
