Celebrate International Dance Day and take a foxtrot lesson on Sunday

International Dance Day is today (Monday, April 29). We hope you’ll celebrate! The event honors Jean-Georges Noverre, the creator of modern ballet, who was born on this day in 1727. The International Theatre Institute, an arm of UNESCO, created International Dance Day in 1982 to encourage us to promote, enjoy, and share the joy of dancing in all its forms.

Speaking of dance celebrations, the next USA Dance social dance party is 3 – 5 p.m. this Sunday, May 5, at the Albuquerque Square Dance Center, 4915 Hawkins St. NE.

Brenda Lamon will teach a smooth foxtrot lesson at 2:15 p.m. Andy Nelson will DJ. [Editor’s note: I erroneously wrote in the last post that Perry Pedersen would DJ this dance. Perry instead will DJ on May 19. Apologies for any confusion.]

Admission is $5 for USA Dance members and $10 for others.
